MTSSR hockey team goes to Penang, Malaysia

On 27 November 2008 the MTSSR Hockey team and Cikgu Hj Aji bin Hj Abdullah left for Penang, Malaysia to compete in the six aside international hockey carnival organised by University Sains Malaysia (USM). Held from 28 – 30 November 2008, the tournament is an annual event in which more than 300 teams from Malaysia and the Asia pacific region compete in the six and seven categories. The MTSSR team competed in the ‘higher institutions’ category. This is the third time that the MTSSR team has competed in the hockey carnival. Last year, the MTSSR team managed to record two winnings and one draw in the group category and only lost at the knock out stage.

The hockey carnival is one of the best ways to expose our young, talented hockey players. It also helps them to gain valuable experience from interacting and competing with more mature, foreign players.

Present at the airport to send the team off were the Deputy Principal, Education and Training, Cikgu Lim Kian Boon, the Extra Curricular Activities Officer, Cikgu Abd Jamal Hj Abd Rahman, the Head of Aircraft Department, Cikgu Hj Md Hairol Md Yusof and family members.

Speaking on behalf of the Acting Principal of MTSSR, the ECA Officer said: “I would like to take this opportunity to convey my greatest thanks and gratitude to all the sponsors, namely IBB Takaful, Beaver Engineering SDN BHD and New Khoon Fen Co. for their support in making this participation possible.”
