11th National
Vocational & Technical Institutions Convocation
The
11th National Vocational & Technical Institutions (VTI)
Convocation was held on 23 April 2009 at the Plenary Hall,
Brunei International Convention Centre in Berakas. The Guest
of Honour, Dato Seri Setia Dr. Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji
Abdul Rahman, Minister of Education, was welcomed by the
Technical Education Officers led by the Technical Education
Director Noorhaizamdin bin Haji Mosbi.
A total of 922 students
graduated this year in the following levels: National Diploma
- 549, National Certificate - 4, National Trade Certificate
2 - 92, National Trade Certificate 3 - 128 and National
Vocational Certificate - 153. This year’s graduates
include those who took National Vocational Certificate in
Clerical Studies from six secondary schools.
The three recipients of
the “Best Student Award” were Suserena Hj Mohd Hashim from
Business School, who completed BDTVEC National Diploma in
Business and Finance, Handi Khairol Zaki Mohd Nordin from
Wasan Vocational School, who completed NTC3 in Fishing Husbandry
and Zatul Haniah Hj Aji from who took BDTVEC National Vocational
Certificate in Clerical Studies.
At the awarding ceremony,
two more graduates received the “IET Network Prize”, which
is an internationally recognised award. They were:
Muhammad Ayub Khan Abdul Rauf Khan and Yong Than Fook, graduated
with a National Diploma in Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) award
is designed to reward excellence in students who are studying
within the geographic area of IET local network. Nominees
come from engineering and technology -related ND and HND
programmes and are assessed on their academic achievements,
engineering involvement, non-engineering involvement, attitude,
discipline and attendance.
The aims of this award
are: a) to encourage students to excel in the area
of Engineering and Technology; b) to give recognition to
students who have demonstrated a combination of commitment
and determination to succeed in Engineering and Technology
and excelled in their overall achievement and c) to promote
the IET brand as a Learned Institution.

7th MTSSR Public Speaking Competition

The
7th MTSSR Public Speaking Competition was held on 12 March
2009 at the Lecture Theatre, SRC with Cikgu Hjh Noorzainab
Bte Hj Abdulladi, the Acting Principal of MTSSR as the guest
of honour. In that event, five finalists gave their speeches
on a wide range of topics. Siti Murdiah Nur Majeedah Bte
Hj Murni from ND/IDG/13 emerged as the champion of the competition,
beating the other contenders with her winning speech on
“Death by Power Point and how to fight it.” Liyana Bte Zakaria
from ND/SCI/24 was the first runner up with her speech on
‘Global Warming’ while third place went to Mohd Yamin Bin
Abdul Rahman from ND/AVT/18 who was presenting a topic on
‘Zippers’. Also during the event, fifteen students were
presented with certificates for making it to the semi-finals
which was held on 2 March 2009.
